My special field of expertise is Middle English language and literature. I've been at the University of Arizona since 1970. For many years I wrote about Ancrene Wisse (or Ancrene Riwle) and recently returned briefly for an article on the vocabulary of the treatise. For the last fifteen years I have focused on the sources and backgrounds of Chaucer's Prioress's Tale, as reported on the Publications page (click on the tab above). I have more work on this topic in progress. My long-term project is a book on the Prioress's Tale.
